Installation guidance

Prepare the site. Follow the manual. Ask when anything is unclear.

Most Affordable Lifts are installed by a homeowner, handyman, contractor, or family member. Your lift-specific manual remains the controlling installation reference.

Before delivery

Prepare the installation area.

Confirm the footprint

A standard 36 × 48-inch platform typically requires an overall footprint near 42 inches front-to-back by 52 inches right-to-left. Custom platforms and gates change the required space.

Prepare a stable surface

Use a firm, level surface such as properly prepared concrete, asphalt, or pavers. Confirm drainage and outdoor conditions before placement.

Plan the travel path

Allow clearance for the wheelchair, scooter, walker, gate swing, landing, and approach. Verify the column, platform, and gates will not conflict with walls or railings.

Local requirements vary. Check with the local authority having jurisdiction to confirm permits, electrical work, inspections, anchoring, and any licensed-contractor requirements.

Receiving the lift

Shipping and delivery.

How it arrives

The lift is securely wrapped and bolted to a pallet. Depending on travel height and configuration, it may arrive fully assembled or in major components such as the column and platform assembly.

Inspect before signing

Check the shipment for visible damage or missing components. Note concerns on the freight paperwork before signing and contact Shipping & Delivery immediately.

General overview

Typical preassembled short-lift installation.

This overview does not replace the manual supplied for the lift.

1. Unpack and move

Remove protective wrapping and pallet fasteners. Use the approved wheel kit, dolly, or lifting method to position the unit safely.

2. Set and connect

Place the lift on the prepared level surface. Connect it to the specified dedicated 110V, 20A circuit. Outdoor locations require GFCI protection.

3. Adjust and test

Follow the manual to set the landing stop, gates, controls, and safety features. Test the complete travel path before normal use.

Many preassembled short lifts can be positioned and commissioned by two adults in approximately two to three hours once the site is prepared. Taller and partially assembled configurations require additional work, bracing, and careful manual review.
